Cooling Tower Plumes
Meteorological
Evaluation Services
has long been active in assessing the environmental impact of
mechanical and natural-draft cooling tower plumes. Our
meteorologists conducted extensive field studies measuring and
photographing cooling tower plumes and determining the key
meteorological variables that affected the length, height and
duration of the cooling tower plumes.
This data set was used extensively during the development of the
Seasonal and Annual Cooling Tower (SACTI) plume model by Argonne
National Laboratory. MES has subsequently used the SACTI model
for a variety of applications modeling the effects of both
natural-draft and mechanical cooling tower plumes.
