About MES (Continued) |
|
|
MES
Outreach |
All MES staff members are encouraged to participate in events that
help the community, especially future scientists. We see MES
not simply as a company, but as a member of the community, and
we take that responsibility seriously.
|
|
|
Commitment
to the
Community |
|
MES, located in the historic village of
Amityville, New York, is a member of the Amityville Chamber of Commerce. MES participates in annual community events such as the
Independence Day street party, Chinese Auction, and Holiday Tree
Lighting Ceremony. Patrick T. Brennan, President of MES, is a
member of Action Long Island, a nonpartisan, professional
organization which addresses issues important to businesses and
individuals on Long Island. Among MES employees are volunteer
educators, active PTA members, and charitable event
participants. We are committed to sharing our time and talents
with the community. |
|
|
|
Commitment
to
Education |
All MES employees attend career fairs in local
elementary and junior high schools, as well as colleges and
universities. Among our meteorologists are members of the Cornell
University, Penn State University, and Stony Brook University
alumni associations.
|
For the past 5 years, MES wrote the middle
school (Division B) meteorology events for the regional and
state science Olympiad competitions. Senior Scientist/Meteorologist Mark L.
Kramer also grades the events. Frank
Castelli developed a new global environment course in 2005 at
Dowling College related to large scale meteorological phenomena
such as global warming, acid deposition and ozone depletion. |
MES employees are often asked by students to
assist in the Earth Science Regents Examination special project.
We are happy to help all students undertaking atmospheric
science projects. However, we respectfully request that the
student, rather than the parent, contact us, since students
should be graded on their own work.
